Silverstar Casino

Background
Silverstar Casino operates a staff canteen serving approximately 1,450 employees and hosts 12 food-outlet tenants.
Before Bokashi Bran was implemented, the property was landfilling about 47 tonnes of waste per month. Food waste contaminated recyclable material and contributed to odour and pest problems around the compactor area.
Implementation
The system was implemented on 17 February 2016. Fifty-litre blue drums were placed at food preparation, dishwashing and collection points, and all tenants and relevant staff received training.
Collected food waste was processed through the WasteStation machine, reducing its physical volume by approximately 80% before the treated material moved into onsite composting.
Real-World Implementation
The rollout required sustained commitment. Contractor resistance, staff turnover and contaminated bins were addressed through repeated training, clearer accountability and designated WasteStation operators.
Waste separation is now included in tenant lease requirements. Contaminated bins are returned to the relevant outlet until the material is correctly sorted.
